Looking to re brand your business? Then read through these tips on a new logo, it includes information about the different types of logo and also the colours.
What is a purpose of a Logo?
A logo is what a business is recognized by, it is also often shows the quality and personality of a company which can include showing the core values of a business. For example when you think of a yellow M, the first thing that comes to mind is McDonalds and that is because they have marketed their business remarkably well. Another example the Apple Logo, again its so recognizable. It plays on a apple with a ‘byte’ taken out of it.
What are the different types of Logos?
In our opinion there are 5 main types of logos.
A wordmark is a logo where the primary image is typography. A good example of this is the Coca-Cola logo. A lot of food and drink brands use this techniques because its simple and easily recognizable.
A lettermark is a logo where the primary image are initials, again typography is the main component in this technique, a lot of freelance designers use this as there logo.
A brandmark is a logo where imagery is used, for example Dove. This is generally used for products that are sold for example computers and phones.
An emblem is generally a shape with objects inside of it, like typography and imagery. Football teams use this technique as a show of their club. A good example of this is starbucks and costa, these can be placed with typography to create a brandmark.
The main components are both typography and imagery to create one logo, for example the Adidas logo and also the pizza hut logo.
What type of logo would suit my Business?
A wordmark logo is great for company’s that are already well known, for example Google Ebay and Fedex. Text only logos are great for small company’s that want to get there brand more well known around the area.
A letter mark logo is used for company’s that either have a really long name and its easier for them just to have initials, or they are a worldwide company and initials are a more recognizable symbol than a wordmark for example.
In my opinion a brandmark is the most effective logo out there, it allows the company to be illustrative and creative and also create a icon or image that will make their company instantly recognizable, although a brandmark would be least effective for local stores and corner shops.
This colour would usually represent organic and environmental business, it is linked to security and wealth.
Blue is colour is said to relax and calm the mind, although more brighter blues and electric shades can be used to target a more younger market.
This colour is used to show control, it can stand out when used with another colour, for example gold or silver can add a degree of class to the logo.
Reds and Oranges
Dark Reds can again be used to show class like silver and gold, brighter reds can be perceived as more energetic. Oranges can show warmth and affordability and would be a good choice for adventurous companies.
