Digital Media Training

Small Business Digital Media Training

Small Business Digital Media TrainingNow that the majority of small businesses have acknowledged that an online presence is a crucial way of increasing brand awareness and sales opportunities, it has become more important than ever for their staff to be trained, not only to use and enhance digital media, but also to meaningfully analyse and understand its effectiveness.

In order to keep your web presence lively and engaging you or your staff will require the necessary skill-sets, so investing in some good quality digital media training from an experienced practitioner will not only help to keep your website maintenance costs down but will increase your website traffic, digital media confidence and improve brand awareness.

The Training Jungle

Larger commercial centres such as major cities will have a numerous companies offering workshop courses and in house training and there are many college based courses and online ‘e-learning’ courses. For the smaller business however it could be much more cost effective to have some bespoke individually tailored training using your own digital media so, not only will you be mastering a new skill-set, you will be able to correct or adjust problematic or unappealing aspects of your own websites or social media campaigns with the trainer on hand.

Knowing What You Want

Having a clear idea of your requirements will help you to navigate the array of courses on offer. It is also worth looking for a training provider who commits to providing back up and support. Do you for example want to understand how to use Social Media within your marketing, how to set up and maintain a Facebook page or understand how to create a campaign using AdWords?  Are you concerned about the ranking of your website on Google or how to create and maintain a blog or maybe build and update a WordPress website?  Training your staff in best practice digital media and marketing techniques will undoubtedly enable them to give your business a stronger presence in the online marketplace.

Creating a Professional LinkedIn Profile

Creating a Professional LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn is a perfect networking tool that will help you achieve your professional goals. It’s a great tool to use for your new or mature business, a non-profit making organisation or if you are putting yourself and your CV out there looking for a career or career change.

Professional Linkedin Profile AdviceLinkedIn offers a unique opportunity to promote yourself or your business on a professional platform. Twitter and Facebook seem to be a free for all of tweets and posts of 90% of personal material, most of which are things you really do not want to see or completely unrelated.

Below are a few ideas from which you can enhance your professional LinkedIn profile and its look and feel.

LinkedIn offers a completion wizard to help you fill out all the blanks. You will need to complete your profile with photo, past education, work experience, current employer and position and general skills.

First things first – Turn off Activity Broadcast before making changes

If you’ve had a LinkedIn account for a while and are connected with people, updating your profile will notify everyone with the changes you are making. By turning off your activity broadcast you can make the changes privately and then switch it back on later.

Profile Headline

Using keywords in your headline is very important and will help people searching for you on LinkedIn’s database. The keywords should consist of your professional services, for an example: “Website Designer located in Gloucester”. The headline gives yourself a professional identity to showcase some of the more detailed parts of your profile hidden away from viewers who are not connected to you.

It goes without saying you need to be truthful at all times, do not tell fibs on your profile as you will eventual get caught out.

Spelling, Grammar &Text

Proofread your profile for spelling and grammar to make sure it all makes sense. Make sure you do not rabbit on to much about how wonderful you are, but at the same time make sure that they can see that. Remember future business or employment can come from the first impression you make on your profile so make sense and have good communication. It is also worth having someone else to proofread it for you.

Your Profile Photo

Has previously explain LinkedIn is a Professional place, so do not put a photo of your pet dog or your children up as the profile photo. Use a clear head shot, preferable in smart dress code.

Change your URL

Your LinkedIn profile URL will consist of alphanumerical characters and sometimes numbers. It’s a good idea to change this to something more professional and clear. You will be able to find this by going to Settings > Edit Public Profile > Customize Your Public Profile URL. It’s a good idea to keep it simple, here is an example:

Join LinkedIn Group

Groups on LinkedIn are a great way to interact and to share and participate in a professional interests. These groups include job seekers, universities, associations and just about every kind of industry you can think of from all around the world.

I Hope this has been of some help to you…

Building Followers on Twitter

When trying to build up your follower count on twitter, you have a few options.

Building Followers on Twitter

Mass Following

Mass following is following loads of people and taking up your follower limit in a short space of time, then you wait for them to follow back. If they dont follow back then you unfollow and follow new people. This technique has advantages and disadvantages, one advantage is that you can quickly build up your followers, but the disadvantage is that they are less likely to be genuine followers that are interested in your tweets. To avoid this follow people that follow the area of interest your feed is about.

Tweet Often

People dont want to follow inactive and quite twitter timelines, so make sure you tweet often around 5 times a day. Mix it up as well, tweet links to other interesting blogs, respond to polls and retweet! Retweeting is probably the most important tool to building a great follower base, but again don’t go overboard with it because people don’t want to follow a feed that is the same tweets all the time.

Use Hastags

When starting out hashtags can be a great tool to have, people search for hashtags using the twitter search so make the hashtags relevant to your tweet and make them popular hashtags.

Twitter Graphics

Be sure to have interesting and visually stimulating twitter graphics, when other tweeters look at your profile they will automatically look at your graphics and having exciting and original graphics can be key to them following you.

Social Media Marketing

Marketing your business is extremely important to creating sales and many people believe that social media will become even more important as time goes on. Here are a few simple and easy tricks to market your business on social media.

Facebook does have a lot of benefits when it comes to creating a business page, in my opinion Facebook now has a older target audience with the latest trend for young people being Twitter and Instagram, Facebook also allows people to search in areas as well, so if you want to advertise your company locally this is good tool to use.

Twitter over the past 2-3 years has become really popular and now many younger people have an account, this site is a lot more cleaner and simpler than Facebook. Its also a lot easier to communicate with your ‘followers’ than Facebook, every account has a twitter handle starting with an @ and also you can create hash tags.

Instagram is another type of social media in the form of an app which allows users to take photos with their camera and then upload to their profile. People can then like this and communicate with users. Again like twitter its aimed at a younger audience but if you like to take photo’s and communicate with followers about events and news then this is a good tool.
